Compliance Statement

Level AA compliance can be achieved using the Headlines component, see Restrictions for more information.

Restrictions

MUST:

  • Headings MUST be accurate
  • Headings MUST be informative.

SHOULD:

  • Headings SHOULD convey a clear and accurate structural outline of the sections of content of a web page.
  • The beginning of the main content SHOULD start with H1.
  • Most web pages SHOULD have only one H1.

SHOULD NOT:

  • Headings SHOULD NOT skip hierarchical levels.
  • Text that does not act as a heading visually or structurally SHOULD NOT be marked as a heading.
  • The Springboard doesn't require the use of heading tags. It also doesn't force nest tags or flag hierarchy issues. A manual check for each page is required.

Using headings to apply visual styles that don't match their hierarchy is an improper usage. Heading colors, fonts and sizes should be evaluated for compliance. The colors, fonts and sizes for headings should be defined site wide to reduce the effort required to meet compliance guidelines.
