Compliance Statement

Restrictions

MUST:

  • Information, structure, and relationships conveyed through presentation can be programmatically determined or are available in text.
  • When the sequence in which content is presented affects its meaning, a correct reading sequence can be programmatically determined.
  • Language MUST be able to be programmatically determined. (w3c.org help document)
  • Color is not used as the only visual means of conveying information, indicating an action, prompting a response, or distinguishing a visual element. ie. inline text links.
  • The visual presentation of text and images of text has a high enough contrast ratio
    • at least 4.5:1 if text is less than 18 point if not bold and less than 14 point if bold (18pt = 24px points to pixel conversion table)
    • at least 3:1 if text is at least 18 point if not bold and at least 14 point if bold (14pt = 19px)
  • Except for captions and images of text, text can be resized without assistive technology up to 200 percent without loss of content or functionality.
  • Content can be presented without loss of information or functionality, and without requiring scrolling in two dimensions.
  • In content implemented using markup languages that support the following text style properties, no loss of content or functionality occurs by setting all of the following and by changing no other style property: 
    • Line height (line spacing) to at least 1.5 times the font size;
    • Spacing following paragraphs to at least 2 times the font size;
    • Letter spacing (tracking) to at least 0.12 times the font size;
    • Word spacing to at least 0.16 times the font size.
  • The purpose of each link can be determined from the link text alone or from the link text together with its programmatically determined link context, except where the purpose of the link would be ambiguous to users in general.

    • s or strike
  • More deprecated/obsolete tags at html.com or w3c.org
